Beethoven is at the heart of this concert, with the majestic Piano Concerto No. 1 and the sunny and cheerful Symphony No. 4 that in its brightness recalls the symphonies of Haydn, with whom Beethoven had studied a decade before. Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Martinez, First Prize winner of the Anton Rubinstein International Piano Competition, will make her debut with the Richmond Symphony in this masterwork.
